A compound with an empirical formula of C2H8N and a molar mass of 46 grams per mole.

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

wont it be C4H16N2

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Trying to get the molecular formula right?

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

yes, i am

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Isn't it the same? Isn't it still C2H8N?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Yeah, if the molecular mass is 46 grams, your empirical is identical. Recheck your question.

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

the answer of this question is the same as written above i am doing molecular and emperical formula calculation practice thru online worksheet and isn't molecular formula DOUBLE the emperical formula

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

compound with an empirical formula of C4H4O and a molar mass of 136 grams per mole. C8H8O2 just like this

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

There is no specific formula for molecular formula. It all depends on the molar mass. If the molar mass was 92 grams, then yeah, you would double it.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Or if it was 144, you would multiply everything by 3.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

However yours is still at 46..so, it's the same.

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

oh awlryt, thank you so much for helping me out i got it

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

our pleasure
