@Bookworm14 It's not D. Self-pollinating plants can pollinate themselves. They don't need birds, or bees, or wind. That's why it's called "self" pollination.

I'm not sure what the answer IS. But I do know what it ISN'T. So, I'll help you out with this one however I can. Take a look at the chart on this page: http://www.diffen.com/difference/Cross_Pollination_vs_Self_Pollination Just from that chart, we can say the answer isn't D. We also know that self-pollination has nothing to do with water, so the answer isn't A. That leaves B and C. The definition of "self pollination" is when pollen from the stamen falls right onto the stigma. (Stamen and stigma are two different parts of a flower.) So, the pollen doesn't need to be CARRIED. Which is why I don't think B is the answer. I do lean on C. But I would also try for a second opinion.

@InYourHead self pollination is done by wind, like I said. Unless it is an underwater plant in which it is done by releasing sperm cells into the surrounding water, which is then absorbed into the egg cells of the plant

I posted an article on self pollination. You gave us a definition of "abiotic" pollination. Abiotic means that other organisms aren't involved. But it's not the same thing as self pollination. If wind is involved, then it IS abiotic pollination, like your definition says. But it's still not self pollination.

Abiotic means that it does it on its own, hence it is SELF (meaning it does it on its own) pollination

The word "abiotic" means "physical, rather than biological." The word "self" has nothing to do with the definition of abiotic. Look at option D. The one you're banking on. "carried by wind or animals." If it's done by animals, it's not self-pollination. That rules out the entire choice. I read what you posted. Did you even look at the chart that I posted in my link? When wind is involved, it carries the pollen from one flower to another. That's cross pollination. When the pollen falls directly from the stamen onto the stigma, it is self pollination. And wind is not involved there.

Dude, ok, just move on........ I am not wrong, you are not wrong, we were taught differently and both of our explanations are correct, but apply in different situations , moving on......
