Peter walks 30 feet away from his house and places a mirror on the ground. He backs 6 feet away from the mirror so that he can see the tip of the roof. Peter's eyes are 5 feet above the ground. The angles between the top of the house, the mirror, and the ground and between Peter's eyes, the mirror, and the ground are congruent as shown in the image: Part 1: Prove the triangles are similar. Part 2: Determine the height of the house.

do you know how to do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i have no idea im really confused:/

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

If they are similar than their ratios are similar. so \[\frac{ 5 }{ 6 } = \frac{ y }{ 30 }\] Now solve for the height of the house, Y

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

But first you would cross multiply the equation i just provided giving you, \[150 + 6y\]

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Then you would solve for y :)!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!:) but now i just need help proving the height of the house which idk if you got the pic

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

well i provided my help maybe tag some people in see if they can help further. I got you started :)!
