I believe it is non-polar am I correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe so, ask @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Yeah, it's non-polar because there is resonance between the oxygen atoms, thus they all carry the same partial charge and the individual dipole moments cancel out.|dw:1425612569960:dw|

an easy trick to tell very quickly if its non polar or polar without drawing diagrams Polar: includes 1.different diatomic elements HBr, or HCl etc 2. carbon bonded to two different atoms ex: C6H12O6 3. Contains nitrogen and other atoms 4. contains oxygen and other atoms non polar: 1. same diatomic element H2, Br2 2. carbon and one other element ex CO2, (excludes carbon monoxide)

OpenStudy (thadyoung):

Those rules do not apply. What if you have bicarbonate? Is that polar because it has oxygen and other atoms?
