OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Suppose a galvanic cell contains one nickel electrode and one copper electrode. At 25°C, nickel has a negative reduction potential and copper has a positive reduction potential. At which electrode will reduction occur? Explain.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@abb0t

OpenStudy (abb0t):

What exactly are you having trouble understanding? Let's start there and work on this together.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

I'm not sure at which electrode reduction will occur...or how to explain that

OpenStudy (abb0t):

In any electrochemical cell, oxidation occurs at the anode, while reduction occurs at the cathode.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@abb0t ok great thanks. can you explain a little more though?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

anode = + charge cathode = - charge

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You can answer this. Try it.
