Question 2: Chemical Equations (15 points)
a. Write 2-3 sentences to describe and identify the type of reaction that occurs between potassium carbonate (K2CO3) and nitric acid (HNO3). (2 points) b. Write the balanced chemical equation for the conversion of potassium carbonate and nitric acid into the products of the reaction as described in (a). (3 points) c. Write 2–3 sentences to describe and identify the type of reaction that occurs during photosynthesis. (2 points) d. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction described in (c). (3 points) e. Write 2–3 sentences to describe and identify the type of reaction that occurs when water is formed from its elements. (2 points) f. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction described in (e). (3 points)
@Hoslos
Yes, yes...
Can you help me with these ones?
Of course. It is my job to help anyone whenever I am able to.
OK thanks. so let's start with a)
When a carbonat reacts with an acid, it behaves as a base, making an acid-base neutralization or titration. The products of the reactions are typically salt and water.
ok thanks. now b)
B) K2CO3 + 2HNO3 - 2KNO3 + H2O + CO2
thanks. :) now c)
As fortis one, I would answer in terms of Biology. The first reaction is called light reaction, in which activation energy is required to make the reactancts CO2 and H2O reactive . Secondly, there is dark reaction in which the plants is able to convert these reactants into sugar and manufacture chemical energy.
thanks. now d)
d) 6CO2 + 6H2O - C6H12O6 + 6O2
oh good. thanks :) now e)
The type of reaction is condensation reaction. It takes place when gases or any types of reactants reactants, where one of the products is water or water vapour.
thanks! now f)
I think f and d are the same, don't you think?
for f) we need a balanced equation for what you described in d)
I also balanced in d).
can you write it as a balance chemical equation?
It is balanced, when I wrote for d).
oops i mean e) NOT d) :)
f. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction described in (e)
e) is to give a statement, not reaction and it is also about d).
e. Write 2–3 sentences to describe and identify the type of reaction that occurs when water is formed from its elements. (2 points) f. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction described in (e).
already did e) now we just need a balanced chemical equation for the reaction described in e)
Oh, I get it now. It is not water's formation from photosynthesis. Let me re-do e), my mistake, Vera.
ok :)
So f) 2H2 + O2 - 2H2O. e) the reaction is combustion. It consits in an element reacting with Oxygen and having one of the products as water.
thanks! :)
You are welcome.
