OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

evaluate the integral

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

\[\frac{ x^3 }{ 3 }\arctan - \frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\int\limits_{}^{}\frac{ x^3 }{ 1 + x^2 }\]

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

@Loser66

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

I am so lost

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

the original is \[\int\limits_{}^{}x^2\arctan(x)dx\]

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

If it helps, here is the solution and I don't understand why they are doing long division and how they got their answer

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

They did the long division to simplify the fraction into two. Then after that they did a u sub.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

split x^3 as x^2 . x dx then substitute x^2 = t tdt/1+t now its simple

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

oh gotcha @Luigi0210
