Can someone help me design a lab? I'm really confused and would just like help...
lab regarding what topic?
Factors that affect the rate of a reaction
@Somy
can you help? @Somy
oh hmm what reaction though?
are u referring to cell activity, to be specific, enzyme? proteins? or what is exactly?
here, I'll post the document with the directions.
@Somy
& what are the factors you came up with?
ummm temperature for 1.. I'm not sure what to do for the others..
maybe surface area?
and concentration?..
surface area? how would it effect the rate?
yep concentration would
temperature is good i think concentration also hmmm i was thinking if pH could
surface area doesn't? I thought that when you break something into smaller pieces (increasing surface area) the rate of reaction is increased.. but I may be wrong..
true but look at your reactants
they are (aq) meaning aqueous = dissolved in water
so surface area doesnt seem to play role here
ohhhh
also you could use catalyst see effect on rate
what would be a catalyst tho?
so you can have 3 factors temperature concentration & catalyst well if you have catalyst - it increases the speed of reaction no catalyst = speed is lower
but it doesnt interfere with reactants or products it only finds a route that requires less activation energy and thereby it increases the reaction rate
I know what a catalyst DOES I just don't know what I could use as a catalyst
hmmm dont really know, maybe H2SO4 - its a pretty good catalyst hmmm
would you consider pressure as factor effecting rate of your reaction?
something that I can actually do a lab with at home and pressure counts, but how would I change pressure?
oh goodness in home condition you say hmm i gotta check what can u do
that's why it's so hard
uhh temperature, you can do at home, concentration also but pressure hmmm
container the decreasing or increasing the volume of a container in which the reaction is to occur also effects rate of reaction
how?
well you get a big flask and a smaller one
do the reaction in both flasks and see the rate at which reaction occurs
ok.. I gotta see if I can buy flasks
hm! since you are doing it at home just get a small and big bowl i think it'd do?
@JFraser maybe you could give some ideas?
okay.. omg! I have an idea... jar.. with a lid, that could increase pressure, right?
yes
oh u could put pressure and not put! ofc!
lol i was trying to think how to decrease the pressure lol so dumb
ummm I talked to my dad about it, and it'll make it explode.. so I can't do that
oh lol i havent tried any experiments at home with a lid specially so i have no idea how is it gonna go
but well considering the fact that there is release of CO2 gas
yeah it most likely will
so what could I use as a catalyst?..
I gotta eat dinner... I'll back later..
okay, imma think of what could u do there
okay.. thanks.
@Somy have you thought of anything else?.. I'm kinda stuck
nothing is coming to mind T_T
gahhh xc
what about agitation? like stirring?
does that count @Somy?
@somy?
hmm u could use that also
does it count?
but im not sure if you can take that as a factor but yes it does affect the rate
hmmm well....
the worst that can happen is I get a few points taken off..
thank you so much for your help.. I was overthinking everything and it helped to collab. with someone else, you know? @Somy
@Kainui or @aaronq maybe can help
no problem tho i didnt do much :)
