What is the bond angle between the hydrogen atoms in an ammonia (NH3) molecule? Also, how do i find them?
This is done experimentally, you cannot simply figure them out by theoretical drawings done by hand. But, you can use VSPER theory to find the shape that helps you determine approximate angles. Start by drawing the structure of ammonia, can you do that?
yeah one sec
will this work, sorry bout the other stuff.
angles u should memorize
i take it you want me to look up what the common value sor those angles are then?
i've already given those angles and shapes so u can check that link
just go down to where i was giving angles
ohh. ok
so wait, would that mean if i were to draw it as a diagram i would need to put the 3 hydrogens in a triangle around the nitrogen?
the upper part where there is a lone pair pushes the bonding pairs down and the angle between bonding pairs is 107 so you would make the angles between all Hs that are connecting to N as same and have it downwards, giving more space to region around lone pair of N
ohh, i think i get it, though i will definitly be looking on the internet to try and understand better, thankyou for your help
no problem :)
