How do you balance the chemical equation for the reaction of aluminium with iron oxide ?

OpenStudy (academicgurusinc):

Since you did not specify the charge on Fe, I will show you both ways. It is a single displacement reaction. Therefore, write the chemical equation for the reaction first. Next starting with each element, see if the coefficients match on both the product and reactants. 2Al (s) + Fe2O3 (aq) ---> Al2O3 (aq) + 2Fe(s) or 2Al(s) + 3FeO (aq) ---> Al2O3 (aq) + 3Fe(s)

Stop self-promoting.

you can write an word equation to then be able to break things down one by one and then use the elements from the reference table
