A scientist is trying to determine the identity of an element. It is highly reactive in water and forms an ionic bond with chlorine. It is also very shiny. The element is most likely 1. from group 17 2. from group 1 3. from group 15 4. a noble gas 3?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Group 1, alkali metals are HIGHLY reactive with water, some can even create extreme explosions (used for bombs). They also all have a charge of +1, while Chlorine has a -1, a perfect combination for ionic bonding.

Thank you so much I was confused, but your explanation helped me a lot :) @dtan5457
