A liquid mixture of rubbing alcohol and water could best be separated by: filtering the alcohol from the water extracting one as a solid through precipitation using floatation to separate them by differences in density using distillation techniques
Think about their physical properties, and which of these you can exploit to separate them.
Well as you know alcohol and water can not be mixed because alcohol stays water due to its density. You can separate alcohol and water by simply separating one of them firs. In this case this method is the best http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d1/Liquid_liquid_extraction.png/220px-Liquid_liquid_extraction.png This method is the best. However, it did not mention extraction method. Use distillation method.
Distillation here is the only method you can use for two liquids. Two liquids have different boiling points so one can be turned to vapour faster and can be turned to liquid in the cold funel and then poured in a separate beaker or container. Therefore distillation technique is our best and only method. If you had any other question let me know to clarify it for you much more. :)
