OpenStudy (korosh23):

How to write shorthand electron configuration for Florine F? Another word for shorthand electron configuration is core notation.

OpenStudy (korosh23):

It seems easy, but do I choose He or Be? I believe it is He? Can someone help please? @matt101

OpenStudy (korosh23):

@Somy

OpenStudy (somy):

choose the one that is in upper period F belongs to meaning if F belongs to period 5 choose the noble gas that is in period 4

OpenStudy (somy):

so yea as u believe u gotta choose helium

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Ok great and can I ask one more quick question?

OpenStudy (korosh23):

For doing the same thing for uranium, do we choose Lu or Rn? and can you explain how ?

OpenStudy (korosh23):

On the internet I found out that is Rn, but the electron configuration is confusing. [Rn] 7s^2 5f^3 6d^1 I thought it was [Rn] 7s^2 5f^4 can you explain this to me please?

OpenStudy (somy):

thats because Uranium belongs to transition section which is why it gotta get the d orbital filled by 1 to move on to f orbital

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Then why is it seperated? Element down the periodic table in those last two rows are called something else.

OpenStudy (somy):

http://prntscr.com/6k55qs

OpenStudy (somy):

because its radioactive

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Oh I see and that is why it has to give one electron to d sublevel. Is it the same thing with all the elements down in those two last rows?

OpenStudy (somy):

yep

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Ok thank you for your help! :)

OpenStudy (somy):

no probs!
