Name the basic assumptions that the kinetic theory makes about gases.
These are my own outlined notes on the kinetic theory of gases. Some are extra tidbits added. The general idea is there. Kinetic molecular theory of gases • 2 gases at same temp have save average molecular kinetic energy. • Pv=nRT • Gas expands when heated at constant pressure • Pressure INC when gas compressed at constant temp • Gases are always in continuous random motion • Volume of gases is negligible to total volume of container • Energy can be transferred to molecules during collisions, so the average kinetic energy between gases is the same • Average kinetic energy proportional to temperature • As temp INC, kinetic energy INC, and intermolecular forces DEC as speed and distance INC • As the volume of the gas container INC, the entropy INC
