ok, first, each term has a number, starting with 1 the "nth" term is generic for look at the term labeled "n" when we say the "nth term" is 3n that "rule" has to work for any n. in other words, it has to work for n=1, for n=2, for n=3 or do say it another way, the sequence is 3,6,9,12, etc
