Which is the result of a chemical change? A. An ice cube that has melted and turned into water B. A log that has been cut up into many pieces C. Cake mix that has been baked into a cake D. A glass of tea that has a teaspoon of sugar dissolved in it

When chemical reactions occur, the atoms are rearranged and the reaction is accompanied by an energy change as new products are generated. A physical change involves a change in physical properties. Physical properties can be observed without changing the type of matter. Examples of physical properties include: texture, shape, size, color, odor, volume, mass, weight, and density. Even though the water has changed shape and therefore physical properties, the chemical nature of the water has not been altered. A log cut into pieces is the same thing. Dissolving sugar in water is a physical change. You can tell this because if you were to dissolve the sugar in water and then let the water evaporate, the sugar would still be left. All of the components that you started with are still there, even if you can't see them. These 3 can be done by someone without anything else. If you add heat, like baking does, the chemical structure of the original products are altered.
