Given the following information about electronegativity, which binary compound would form covelant bonds with the greatest polarity? Element Electronegativity H 2.1 Li 1.0 S 2.5 Al 1.5 F 4.0 Cl 3.0 A. HCl B. LiF C. H2S D. AlH3

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@dtan5457

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Is the answer C?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Polar ranges from difference of electronegativity of 0.4-1.9 C has a polarity of 1.7, which is the highest of the list. Yes, it's C

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Ok thanks!

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

It was wrong...

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Uhh..polar covalent from 0.4 to 1.9..not sure what I did wrong. Does it tell you what was the right answer?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

A. HCl was the right answer

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Oh, they must of let H2 in H2S just be H sort of like a diatomic molecule...then it would have a less eletronegativity
