It requires an understanding of logarithms to understand it properly. I would advice relating it to salt in water. The more salt (H+) added the saltier (acidic) the water is. @Helpppmeee1999

@Oh, it is important to note the range we use to measure is 0 to 14. You can tell them that we put more acid things as less than 7, and 7 is pure water (neutral), and as things become past neutral and less acidic it goes up to 14, which is not acidic at all.

Not sure how to get them to deal with the apparent oddity of the smaller numbers being more acidic though.
