Please help!!!!! Very confusing!!!! The boiling point of a solution will ____________ and the freezing point will ____________ with _____________ concentration of a nonvolatile solute.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The possible answers are: A. decrease, decrease, decreasing B. increase, increase, decreasing C. increase, decrease, increasing D. decrease, increase, increasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe it's C, but not 100% positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just like when you add salt to water in winter. The salt (the nonvolatile solute), lowers the freezing point of water so it doesn't freeze until much lower temperature. It also raises boiling point because the NaCl ions have more interacting bonding with the water molecules, so it takes more energy to free the H2O molecules to boil. The more salt you put in (increased molarity) the more effective the salt is at doing this

I hope this was helpful

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhh okay, got it! Thank you so so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wait, unfortunately D was incorrect for some reason?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then go with your gut and try C.. I'm surprised

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too C

Thank you everyone!!!
