Because they have a very similar "outer surface charge", the same configuration of valence electrons. But as you move down a group, the average radius increases and valence é feel less attraction towards the nucleus. This larger and more polarizable electron "cloud" results in a change in intermolecular forces that directly influences the physical properties (e.g. melting point). Similarly, because of the decrease in effective nuclear charge, valence electrons require less energy to be ionized - ionization energy is a measure of chemical reactivity.
Ok, but you did not mention if they have the same physical or chemical properties? Do they have similar reaction as well?
