I don't understand this question: Hypothetically you form a hydrate from it, how could you determine its formula in the lab? My compound is magnesium chloride.
what part don't you understand?
What its asking for in general, I'm not too familiar with hydrates
im thinking its asking how can you determine magnesium chlorides formula
It's already asked me for the formula :P
well I don't know then I told you what I thought the question was
srry for not being able to help
hope u find ur answer
Thanks:)
maybe I can find u someone that can help u with ur question
So to find the formula of a hydrate you would do something similar to what you did to find the compound. You would measure the mass of the hydrate, then heat it to evaporate the water off. Then measure the mass again. The difference between the two measurements is the mass of water present. you can then use the moles of the anhydrate to figure out how many molecules there are present on each MgCl2 unit
she doesn't understand what the question is asking not to find the formula of the hydrate
the question is asking you to propose a way to find the formula of a hydrate in the laboratory
that's her but she still says she doesn't understand
well then
I figured it out, thanks.
