you changed a + sign into a multiply sign, and made it a different (and harder) problem

\[ \frac{1}{2} x(4x-6) +3(x^2-1) \] you can write that as \[ \frac{x}{2} (4x-6) +3(x^2-1) \] distribute the x/2 (i.e. multiply each term inside the parens by x/2 distribute the 3 what do yo get?

the problem is not to solve an equation, but to "simplify" a complicated expression

(2x^2 -3x) + (3x^2 - 3)

ok. the parens are not doing anything, so we can drop them \[ 2x^2 -3x + 3x^2 - 3\] combine "like terms"

I see it lol, would there be a way to get the same answer doing it the way I did it? Or is that completely wrong?

no, you did what people call "wandering off into the swamp" it happens. this is *not* factoring, *not* solving an equation. just distribute and combine like terms to get a simpler expression
