How could you use the kinetic theory of matter to explain what happens when two liquid of different temperature are mixed together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When liquids of different temperatures are mixed together, the liquids will either lose or gain thermal energy depending on its temperature. Both water molecules from the different liquids will come to an equilibrium when both molecules of the liquids have the same amount of thermal energy and kinetic energy. Since energy cannot be created and destroyed, the energy will be transferred between molecules of the different liquids, either gaining or losing energy. Eventually, both molecules will vibrate in its vibratory motion at a constant rate. Hence, the mixture will be of an average temperature of the two liquids mixed together at first.
