which of the following bases is the weakest? (CH3)2NH, Kb=5.1 x 10^-4 CIO-, Kb=2.9 x 10^-7 SO4^2-, Kb=8.3 x 10^-13

OpenStudy (jfraser):

remember that the \(K_B\) of a base is a ratio of product/reactant. When the base dissociates in water:\[:B(aq) + H-OH(l) \rightleftharpoons BH^{+1}(aq) + OH^{-1}(aq)\]the \(K_B\) is\[K_B = \frac{[BH^{+1}]*[OH^{-1}]}{[B:]}\] Which \(ratio\) is the smallest will tell you which base is the \(weakest\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it SO4^2-?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since that equals 8.3 E-13?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

it is

Yay! Thank you so much!!
