As a sample of gas is heated, its volume increases. Why does this occur? A. The increased speed of the gas particles makes them collide with each other with greater force and bounce farther apart -- increasing the total volume occupied by the gas particles. B. The gas decomposes into more molecules which makes them collide with each other with greater force and bounce farther apart. C. The gas softens when heated which increases the total volume occupied by the gas particles. D. The entire universe is expanding.

@abb0t what could be for answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@matt101

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

really think how ridiculous some of these answer choices are...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am sorry do not know for answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

must be A i think sweet

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

most likely A. im almost certain as when gas particles are heated they gain kinetic energy and will take up more space

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

ya good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good yes sweet thank

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

np np

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Well, if you think about it, assuming an ideal gas: \(\sf \color{red}{PV = nRT}\) As you can see: P = V so as pressure increases, volume increases also. It is directly proportional.
