A student is synthesizing aspirin by adding 200.0 g of salicylic acid to an excess of acetic anhydride. Calculate the percentage yield if 231 g of aspirin is produced. (Hint: Before you can determine the percentage yield, you must first calculate the theoretical yield of aspirin based on the amount of the limiting reactant supplied.) C7H6O3 + C4H6O3 --> C9H8O4 + C2H4O2

STEP #1: Figure out how many moles of salicylic acid and aspirin you have. STEP #2: Using the reaction provided, determine the theoretical yield of aspirin you should get based on how much salicylic acid reacted. STEP #3: Determine the % yield using the following equation: actual/theoretical * 100.
