OpenStudy (cometailcane):

Explain the trend of melting points in the third period elements Na to Cl. Please help!

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Metals tend to have a higher melting point than non metals. So Na would have a higher melting point than CL

OpenStudy (cometailcane):

But why does silicone have a 1687 melting point? I dont understand how to predict where they would be

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Trends aren't always consistent with every element. Here is some good info that may be of use. http://www.creative-chemistry.org.uk/alevel/module1/trends8.htm

OpenStudy (cometailcane):

Thank you! this helped alot!

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
