An alkali metal is most likely to form an ionic bond with an element from which group? noble gases halogens alkaline earth metals transition metals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alkali metals tend to lose an electron to halogens forming a positive ion of the alkali and a negative ion of the halogen. A classic examples is sodium and chlorine, which form salt when the sodium loses and electron to the chlorine and the form an ionic bond because their opposite charges are attracted to each other.
