Write a balanced combustion reaction for C2H2 (acetylene). How did you know which products should be formed? I'm not sure how to go about doing this... can anyone please help me?

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

All combustion of hydrocarbon reactions have carbon dioxide and water as products. (also, oxygen gas is a reactant)

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Can you write the unbalanced reaction?

OpenStudy (lolaismy):

Remember a combustion reaction is when a compound uses an oxidant (USUALLY OXYGEN) and rearranges atoms to make new compounds (Usually water and carbon dioxide)! Acetylene for example is just C2H2 with oxygen for its combustion! so, thus further C2H2 + O2 ==> CO2 + H2O I hope you can balance this equation out for yourself. Have a lovely day!
