The length of the base of a triangle is 8.5 cm and its height is 5.4 cm. If the area of the triangle is half of the product of its base length and height, the area of the triangle is __________ cm2. (Round your answer to the appropriate significant digits) Numerical Answers Expected! HELP PLEASE!!!!
Step 1. Find the product of the base (8.5 cm) and the height (5.4 cm). Post your results.
45.9?
Correcto. now for step 2. Multiply that result by .5 to get the area.
22.95?
Step 3. Round your result to the appropriate significant figures
23.00
Note that you are now showing the area to a precision of hundredths while the linear measurements were only accurate to tenths (precision), the area was obtained from those linear measurments, so how can the area be more precise than the initial base, and height measurements?
huh i am lost
The product can not have more significant figures than the smallest number of significant figures as the factors. Your number of significant figures in the height and base were 3, therefore the area can not have more than significant.
