Describe some of the properties of water, and explain how the structure of water is responsible for these properties.
water is a polar solvent . polar means that its electronagativity value is within 1.7 . all the polar compounds are dissoveable in polar solvents like wate and ethanol together.. the polar compounds are formed b/w dissimilar atoms ir molecules . in water the most electronegative atom that is oxygen pulls up the least electronegative hydrogen to itself . (the E.N values of oxygen - 3.5 and hydrogen is -2.1 ) .partial positive and partial negative charges are distributed amongst the polar compunds. the property of water is a dual nature . like in ive it acts like a tetrahedral structure and occupies the most space while in case of water , its structure is linear ( i.e:180 degrees) that is why it evaporates rapidly when exposed to air .
