Ill give medal An industrial process involves reacting nitrogen gas (N2) and hydrogen gas (H2) to produce ammonia (NH3). What type of reaction is this? (2 points) A: decomposition reaction B: double-replacement reaction C: single-replacement reaction D: synthesis reaction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B and C are incorrect because only one compound is formed in hydrogen and nitrogen reaction. The double replacement reaction looks like this AX + BY-> AY + BX so you can see the elements or ions have been exchanged and single replacement reaction looks like XY + A-> AX + Y. A is not correct either because a compound absorbs heat energy to be broken down down in to two smaller compounds in decomposition reaction. We're left with D option.

Yes! @rosestella is correct! :)
