Andrea, a runner, uses a graph to track her speed and distance. The graph below shows Andrea’s running data for a one-hour run. At one point, Andrea took a break from running. When was the break, and how long did the break last?
@uri
Please post the graph
I know the answer it is At 30 minutes, she took a 10 -minute break I just need an explanation on why that is the answer.
Give me a sec... a graph would be great though.
@uri @superman36
well, where did you get your answer?
ok I admit google but I want an explanation so I can learn really
plus I will give fan and medal
An actual sit-down break would be characterized by the passage of time associated with no distance. That would be a vertical line. That seems to be hiding at the 4-mile mark. The hint is in the problem statement where we are told that the entire hour was utilized. Also, a more vertical slope might be considered a "break" -- walking, rather than running.
oh ok thanks is that the explanation
sorry I think I gave you the wrong graph one sec
That IS how to read the chart. If you post another chart, please supply YOUR interpretation.
I though the graph was wrong....
well there you go. the line went flat at 30 min
Look for the passage of time with no distance. That's a break. It doesn't matter which direction it is pointed.
is that the explanation
An actual sit-down break would be characterized by the passage of time associated with no distance. That would be a horizontal line. This is visible between 30 minutes and 40 minutes. Copied a little from @tkhunny answer.
thanks is that the explanation
Yep.
can u help me with one more plz
Select a graph for the situation. You walk 1 mile to the bus stop, ride the express bus for 2 miles, and then walk another mile to your home.
I now the answer it is
but I need an explanation agine
Your turn. You give US the "explanation". Whatever that is.
