OpenStudy (korosh23):

could you please expalin if the following molecules can be cis-trans isomerism? a) 3-ethyl-3-hexene b)2,5-dimethyloctane Please explain how it is possible, and how it is not? Thanks in advance.

You do know how to construct structural/displayed formula provided the names?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well b cannot be cis trans isomer because there are no double bonds between carbons present. Cis Trans occurs due to double bonds between Carbon atoms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For a the displayed formula is see the attatchment

You can see 2 groups around one atom of C are same so cannot be cis trans isomer had it been different it would exhibit cistrans isomerism.
