which molecular structure does not contain three atoms bonded at an angle between 109 and 110. A.ethanoic acid B.graphite C.propane D.Silicon(IV)oxide Can you explain what the question is asking what does it mean by 3 atoms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know graphite has 120 but won't D be having 180 since it's linear

OpenStudy (aaronq):

|dw:1433625820914:dw| Silicon (IV) oxide has bonds similar to methane, it doesn't exist as \(SiO_2\) but a network (quartz).

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Graphite (which are graphene sheets) has bonds at 120, so that should be the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh! Do you know some other quartz so i can memorise them incase they come up in exam.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

other quartz? you mean network solid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solids that have same structure as quartz.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

oh hmm, most metal oxides exist as networks. Have you taken inorganic chemistry? specifically the stuff dealing with ionic solids/packing structures?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes i took those classes

OpenStudy (aaronq):

okay, review some of the common structures and you should be okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah i'll do that thanks.
