PLEASE HELP ME I WILL MEDAL AND FAN I DONT WANT AN ANSWER. SCROLL DOWN ALL THE WAY, I STILL NEED HELP Bruce has a bottle that contains 60% of lemon juice and the rest water. The bottle has 1 liter of water. Part A: Write an equation in one variable that can be used to find the total number of liters of lemon juice and water in the bottle. Define the variable used in the equation. Part B: How many liters of lemon juice are present in the bottle? Show your work.
HI!!
the total number of liters of water is not something you have to find, it is 1 liter what you have to find is the liters of lemon juice name a variable, and say that it represents the number of liters of lemon juice
j=lemon juice
what do you want to call your variable? ok J = liters of lemon juice, fine
t= total amount of juice
you don't need two variables, one will do
especially since it says "Write an equation in ONE variable "
ok, but we have to find the total of lemon juice and water, not just lemon juice, so i didnt knoe...
if J is the amount of lemon juice and there is one liter of water, then the total amount is \[J+1\] which is why you don't need another variable
ok
then \(60\%\) of the total is lemon juice, the total is \(J+1\) so you can write an equation \[J=0.6\times (J+1)\] and solve that for \(J\)
if you do it correctly you should get \(J=1.5\)
ok so first I would subtract?
because I need to do the work
please help
Like @misty1212 said, "J=0.6×(J+1) and solve that for J" First step is J=0.6J+0.6 OK?
okk?
What do you think the next step is then?
subtract 1?
@sdfgsdfgs
no, group all terms with the variable J on to one side....
?ok.. how do i do that
J=0.6J+0.6 so which term includes the variable J
0.6j? @sdfgsdfgs
And J on the left hand side! Move them all to one side but subtracting 0.6J
ok
What do you get after that?
j=.6?
@sdfgsdfgs
please?
J=0.6J+0.6 subtract 0.6J on the left and right hand side
j-6j=.6
what is the left side equal to?
0.6?
That is the right side. how about the left?
j-.6j
what is that equal to?
.6
