OpenStudy (photon336):

Can anyone explain a conjugate acid base pair and/ or provide an example? Thanks will give medal.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

conjugate means connected, or related by some manner.

OpenStudy (photon336):

@abb0t if we have the reaction NH3 + H20 ---- NH4+ + OH- What would be the conjugate acid base pair in this case and why? Thanks

rvc (rvc):

In the following case consider Water to be Acid1 Since water donates a proton it acts as an acid and turns into OH+ which is a base1 Conjugate acid-base pairs are compounds that differ by the presence of one proton or H+. All acids have a conjugate base. As soon as the acid donates the proton it forms a conjugate base. Similarily all base have conjugate acid which is formed after they have accepted the proton.

OpenStudy (photon336):

Thank you!

rvc (rvc):

Thank you so much :)

OpenStudy (photon336):

I liked your explanation though you explained it pretty well so that saved me a lot of time lol.
