Which types of orbitals are found in the principle energy level n=3 A) s,d B) s,p,d C) s,p D) s,p,f E) s,d,f

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think there has to be 3 but I'm not positive about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

S,p,d I think.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n=1 shell means there's only s orbitals. n=2 means s and p orbitals. n=4 gives s, p, d, and only from this level, the f orbital. So the n=3 level would give three orbitals that are s, p, and...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand....

OpenStudy (photon336):

I think it's B, s p and d You can have 3s and 3p Because you can have 4s and then 3d, Which is the lowest value d can take on. Starts for the transition metals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not D or E because the f orbital is not found in anything less than n=4. N=3 means that there will be three orbitals in the energy level, which prevents a or c from being the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I got it right with B? 😆

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you all I think I understand it better now 😆

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes definitely B
