Which is the next logical step in balancing the given equation? CS2(l) + Cl2(g) CCl4(l) + S2Cl2(l)

rvc (rvc):

\[\rm CS_2+Cl_2 \rightarrow CCl_4+S_2Cl_2\] is this the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the subsripts just wouldnt pop up @rvc

rvc (rvc):

okay we have 2 Cl atoms on the LHS and 4 on RHS what do you think we should do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add a 2 somewhere ? @rvc

rvc (rvc):

Correct y somewhere it should be added to the Cl atom only :)

rvc (rvc):

wait we have 6Cl atoms

rvc (rvc):

on the RHS

rvc (rvc):

and 2 on the LHS so we need to multiply 3 on the LHS

rvc (rvc):

look : \(\rm CS_2+\color{red}3Cl_2 \rightarrow CCl_4+S_2Cl_2\)

rvc (rvc):

now check Is it balanced?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe so @rvc
