http://postimg.org/image/rpcwj7gj9/faf27263/ Can anyone help me with 2 geometry questions?! :D
no problem, i might have to hop back and forth with another person lol
SO for 22, the lighter sphere's diameter is 4, and the shaded sphere is 12
do you know the sphere volume equation?
V= 4/3(pi)(r)^3 ?
as for the question itself, you just find the volumes, and subtract from each other
yes correct!
But remember it is DIAMETER, and we want RADIUS, and to get that, we divide the diameter by 2
Then you just plug the values of the radius for the equation and find both, then subtract to find your answer!, find it and i will check
so is the diameter 8?
no, one of the diameter is 4, and one is 12
so find the radius of them both! and then plug them in
ohhh! I didn't see the 12 xD
so I do 4/3 * 3.14 * 6^3 ?
yes sorry! i was helping another person
And you would do the same for the other sphere, whose diameter is 4
and I get 1657.92 - 33.49 ?
How did you get 1657.etc
I plugged 4/3 * 3.14 * (6)^3
hmmm, well 4/3= 1.3333333.... 1.3333.....x3.14 (personally like to use pi but whatever :P)=4.18666666... So then 6^3 equals 216 so 4.1866666666X216=904.32
other one is right :)
Wow xD blonde moment there! Can you help with the other if you have the time? XD
yea! so we know how to find the shaded area quickly, because volume of rectangular prism is l x w x h
Do you know the cylinder volume formula
v=(pi)(r^2)(h)
yes!
So we already know the height and radius. To know these you have to image a bit. The circle/ends of the cylinder take up the whole ends of the prism except for those slivers. The diameter would just be one of the sides, which is 8 in this case. Then we find the radius which is 4
and to find the hieght it is the length of the prism, which is, you guessed it, 32
so then we just subtract the volumes from each other
hope i helped!!!!
