OpenStudy (amigatour):

I understood the concept of the single replacement reaction, but I'm lost with these elements and compounds: Zn+HCl---> ZnCl2 + H2. There is only 1+ for the Zn and 1- for the HCl. Why are they gaining two charges?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

well this is also an oxidization reduction reaction in which Zn is losing electrons becoming positive/ being oxidized and Hydrogen is gaining electrons/ being reduced.

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

|dw:1436341713112:dw| if I follow your question right, I believe you have the charge wrong for Zn.
