You want to focus on the exponents for both your x's and your y's :) exponents are your "powers" right? So when we write polynomials in "STANDARD FORM" ... This just means you're ordering the terms so that your exponents will decrease from highest to lowest. E.g. if i had a polynomial : x^3 + 4x^4 + 2x - 10. To re-arrange this in "standard form" , i'd look at the powers and rewrite it from the term with the highest exponent of x ( which would be 4x^4), the second highest exponent of x ( which would be x^3), the third highest (2x) and then the constant at the end ( -10). Standard form -> 4x^4 + x^3 + 2x - 10 make sense?

in simple terms: Look at your exponents (powers) and find the polynomial where the exponents decrease from highest -> lowest
