It decreases the activation energy of both the forward and reverse reactions, allows your reaction to proceed faster but does not affect the equilibrium.

the catalyst lowers the Ea, and makes the reaction go faster but overall it doesn't do anything other than that.

in certain reactions the catalyst is altered in the process of the reaction but it's always regenerated afterwards, so all you need to know is that it lowers Ea that's basically it.

Although It is easy to remember that a Catalyst lowers the Activation energy (I remember it this way too), the catalyst actually finds a different reaction pathway that has a lower activation energy. So the catalyst doesn't actually lower the Ea.
