OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

How does a buffer work? A. It prevents added acids or bases from dissociating. B. It bonds with the added H+ or OH- in solution. C. It forms new conjugate pairs with the added ions. D. It neutralizes acids or bases by precipitating a salt.

OpenStudy (photon336):

Prevents any major change in your pH

OpenStudy (photon336):

pH = pKA + log[conjugate base/acid] I'm not too sure if I remember correctly a buffer is made of a weak acid and its salt.

OpenStudy (photon336):

It must keep the pH relatively constant so I think it has to neutralize anything added so it must react with either OH- or H+
