\[\frac{ Actual yield }{ theoretical yield } x 100\] You need to balance your equation first and then you can determine the number of grams produced just from the equation itself to get the theoretical yield. the actual yield is what you get from your experiment, and things can happen, ideally you want your percent yield to be 100% but that rarely happens for a number o f reasons that I wont go into. Measured mass of product actually produced divided by calculated mass of product that should be produced by the given amount of reactants makes most sense to me
