OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Carbonic acid (H2CO3) and the corresponding bicarbonate (HCO3-) has a pKa of 6.38. If the pH of the buffer was 6.05, which species would be in greater quantity? A. HCO3- B. CO32- C. H2CO3 D. HCO3- and H2CO3 would be in equal amounts.

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Sorry, I'm not good with buffers.

OpenStudy (photon336):

I think H2CO3 pH = pKA + log[A-/HA] Ph <pKA so log[A/HA] < 1 HA>A

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

Yes I would think it should be C

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Thanks.

OpenStudy (photon336):

C
