Which of the following is a possible Noble gas notation? [Ar] 4s^24p^2 [Ar] 3s^23p^6 [Ar] 4s^23d^104p^2 [Ar] 3s^23d^10

OpenStudy (photon336):

noble gases will always have a filled orbital remember that

this topic is so challenging for me:/ so that means that it would have an energy level of 4? @Photon336

OpenStudy (photon336):

[Ar] 3s^2 3d^10, is wrong b/c it's 4s^2 then 3d [Ar] 4s^2 4p^2 you can't have 4p^2 filling before 3d. similar as 1. [Ar] 4s^2 3d^10 4p^2 (noble gases have the p orbital filled. [Ar] 3s^2 3p^6 makes the most sense to me.

Thank you! Do you know any websites that could help me get a better understanding of this? @Photon336

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Here is a good website: http://chemwiki.ucdavis.edu/Inorganic_Chemistry/Electronic_Configurations :-)
