Judy drove 20 miles from her house to a theater at an average rate of 50 miles per hour. Greg drove from his house to the theater in 1/3 of the time it took Judy to drive to the theater, and they arrived at the same time. If Judy left the house at 7:30 pm, when did Greg leave the house?

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

speed = distance /time

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

Is it multiple choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I knew that but go on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

I believe it's 7:46pm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to know how to do it i dont need the answer

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

K so

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

It took judy 24 minutes to get to the theatre and it took greg 1/3 of that.

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

You would divide 24/3 to get 8.

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

If Judy left at 7:30 then she got to the theater 24 minutes later at 7:54. That means Greg had to leave his house at 7:46 in order to arrive at the same time.

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

Because they both left at the same time and greg traveled 1/3 the distance it took Greg 8 minutes to get to the Theatre.

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

I hope that helps.

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

Here:

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

Going at 50mph is would take Judy 24 minutes (2/5 of an hour) to go 20 miles. If Greg got to the theater in 1/3 the time, then that's 8 minutes. If Judy left at 7:30 then she got to the theater 24 minutes later at 7:54. That means Greg had to leave his house at 7:46 in order to arrive at the same time.
