Need help please!!
Question?
I did this by hand and got an answer, but after checking it on multiple online calculators i keep getting no solution |2x-3|+5=4 I got X=1 and X=2
I had a couple of people try it and they got the same answers, x=1 and x=2
I like to simplify these problems where we get the absolute value equation on one side of the problem and the other numbers and things on the other side. So:\[\left| 2×-3 \right|= -1\]
then we can just plug in values of x to see if it'll equal -1. So you said you tried x=1 and x=2. Let's start with X=1: 2(1)-3 = 2-3 = -1 and if we take the absolute value, we get 1, which does not equal -1 Next let's try x=2 2(2)-3 = 4-3 = 1 which does not equal -1.
Let's try x=0 2(0) -3 = 0-3 = -3 which means it is 3 (because of absolute value, which I'm too lazy to type everytime) so it still does not equal -1
Ohhh thank you!
Acutally, no number will =-1 for this problem because we are trying to get an absolute value equation to equal a negative number, which is impossible
So if you apply the first step I showed you (simplifying for the absolute value term) and you get a negative number, then it impossible for the absolute value equation to = that number
Understand?
Yes, thank you so much for your help!
