how many eletrons are in sulfur 23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

16

OpenStudy (rushwr):

sulfur 32 right? if it is 23 then it is sodium !

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

yes, I am being an idiot here..... Agreed with @Rushwr

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

its atomic number is 16

OpenStudy (rushwr):

atomic number is equal to the no of protons which is again equal to the no of electrons so for sulfur there are 26 electrons. U have given the mass number ! mass number contains no. of neutrons+ protons. Usually the mass number of sulfur is 32 and sodium is 23 that is why I said. IT is not the no. of electrons.

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

one second, sulphur has 16...... 2,8,6.... Now I am 100% right...

OpenStudy (rushwr):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Atomic number can change if it's an isotope, neutron increases while number of proton/electrons stays the same.
